Privacy Policy
How information is handled when you visit SurfLocal.us, use the platform, or contact a business through a connected website.
1. Who this notice covers
SurfLocal US is operated by Surflocal Media LLC ("SurfLocal," "we," "us"). This notice concerns SurfLocal.us and the platform features provided through it. It does not automatically govern every other website using a SurfLocal name.
A business using our website or communication tools may separately determine why it collects your information and how it follows up with you. Its own privacy notice may also apply. Contact that business about its practices; contact us about SurfLocal platform handling.
2. Information involved
Depending on the feature you use, information can include:
- Names, business names, email addresses, phone numbers, city, state, business categories, services, and profile details.
- Account identifiers, authentication and verification records, account status, and access-related information.
- Inquiries, appointment requests, message content, conversation history, newsletter preferences, and communication status.
- Website content, offers, marketing projects, uploaded media, chat knowledge, and publishing history supplied or created through the platform.
- For connected email features, mailbox login information, messages, folders, contacts, and attachments needed for the functions used.
- Technical information such as IP addresses, request timing, source-page information, session identifiers, and application or security logs.
- Payment-related identifiers and transaction status returned by a payment processor when a payment feature is used.
Do not send passwords, complete payment-card details, government identification numbers, or sensitive medical or financial information through ordinary inquiry forms, chat, or messages.
3. Why information is used
Information supports account access, business identity, website creation and publishing, inquiry routing, bookings, conversations, verification, notifications, newsletter preferences, payment-status handling, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and responding to support or privacy requests. Information entered for public websites or marketing can become publicly visible when published.
An inquiry or appointment request is not, by itself, permission for unrelated marketing. Marketing choices and message-specific permissions must be handled separately.
4. Businesses, service providers, and integrations
Information submitted to a business through the platform is made available to that business and its authorized users for the requested interaction. SurfLocal personnel and service providers may process information as needed to operate, maintain, support, or protect the service.
Relevant services can include hosting, email delivery or mailbox services, communications providers, payment processing such as Stripe, and external services connected to a feature. Where Google-related or AI-assisted features are enabled, the information submitted to those services depends on the feature and its configuration. Do not submit third-party personal information to an external service without authority to do so.
Provider-operated websites and services have their own notices and terms. We may also disclose information when required by law, to address fraud or security incidents, to protect legal rights, or in a business transfer subject to applicable safeguards.
5. Messages and subscriber information
Verification records, newsletter preferences, and communication records help associate requests and messages with the correct business. Use the unsubscribe option in a marketing email or contact its sender to stop that sender's marketing emails. See the Messaging Terms for text messaging and sender responsibilities.
Mobile opt-in and consent information must not be sold or shared for third parties' independent marketing. Processing by service providers to deliver the authorized messaging service is distinct from independent marketing use.
6. Cookies and browser storage
Account and onboarding workflows use sessions and cookies to maintain access and support security. Features may also rely on browser storage for their operation. You can use browser controls to restrict or clear cookies and stored data; doing so may sign you out or prevent a feature from working.
This notice does not grant permission for optional advertising or tracking. Where a feature uses optional tracking that requires a choice, that choice must be provided before the relevant processing. External links and embedded services may involve their providers' own data practices.
7. Storage, retention, and security
Different features use different records and storage systems. Archive, trash, unsubscribe, and permanent deletion are not equivalent operations. For example, moving a lead to trash may preserve a recoverable record; opting out may require retaining a suppression record so the preference can be honored.
Retention depends on the purpose of the information, account and communication needs, legal obligations, disputes, security, and backup handling. Request a review of particular information using the contact below. This notice does not promise an automatic deletion period or immediate removal from all backups.
Access, identity, and verification controls support protection of the platform. No online service, storage method, or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure.
8. Requests and privacy choices
Email contact@surflocal.us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy choices. Describe the account or interaction involved without sending passwords. We may need to verify your identity and clarify whether SurfLocal or a customer business controls the information.
Depending on applicable law and the processing involved, you may have rights to obtain a copy of information, correct it, request deletion, or opt out of certain processing. An authorized agent may contact us where permitted. If a request is denied, you may ask us to review that decision and exercise any applicable appeal or complaint rights. These provisions do not limit statutory rights or authorize discrimination for exercising them.
9. Children and updates
The business platform is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through it, contact us so we can investigate and address the information appropriately.
We may revise this notice to reflect changes in practices or requirements. Material changes require appropriate notice and any consent required by applicable law; a posted update does not retroactively authorize a new use requiring consent.
